Core Product Features
- PCIe 2.0 enterprise‑grade MegaRAID hardware RAID controller built‑on SAS2108 chip. Out‑of‑factory it runs in IR‑RAID mode, supporting advanced hardware RAID‑0,1,5,6,10,50,60 for business‑level file servers and storage arrays. It can be re‑flashed to IT pass‑through firmware to act as an HBA card for ZFS, TrueNAS, FreeNAS, unRAID NAS storage systems.
- PCIe 2.0 x8 bandwidth, two SFF‑8087 internal ports supporting up to 8 SATA/SAS hard‑disk drives installed inside the server chassis. On‑board cache memory improves RAID‑mode write‑performance.
- Dual‑mode capability:
- IR‑RAID mode: full hardware‑level enterprise RAID functions with cache, for business‑storage that requires hardware data redundancy.
- IT‑mode (after firmware flash): pass‑through mode, the operating system fully controls each individual disk for software‑defined‑RAID (ZFS‑RAID‑Z, md‑raid), disabling the onboard hardware‑RAID logic.
- Fan‑less passive heat‑sink, zero‑noise operation, stable for 24/7 long‑term continuous runtime in rack‑mounted storage servers. It includes full‑height and low‑profile mounting brackets.
- Hot‑swap available for internal hard‑drives after IT‑mode flash; all physical disks are exposed directly to the host OS.
- Widely‑used for 8‑bay enterprise RAID‑storage, or high‑performance DIY ZFS NAS after IT‑firmware flashing.
Application Scenarios
- Default IR‑RAID mode: Small‑enterprise file‑servers, backup‑storage requiring hardware RAID 5/6/50/60 data redundancy.
- IT‑flashed HBA mode: 8‑bay ZFS/TrueNAS NAS, media‑archival storage, high‑performance home‑lab storage servers.
